Pakistan Economy Registers 7% Growth Rate for 4th Consecutive Year
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan economy has shown a robust growth as the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has registered an average growth rate of 7 percent for the fourth consecutive year. Official sources highlighting the performance of economy during 2006-07 said that the per capita income in the year increased to US $ 926 or Rs. 56,121.
The investment grew by 21.4 percent or 23 percent of the GDP and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) posted a growth of 71 percent from US $ 3.5 billion to US $ 6.0 billion in 2006-07. The sources added that Tax collection increased by 18 percent during July-April 2007 and exports increased by 18.3 percent and imports up by 8.9 percent. "Worker remittances increased by 22 percent" they remarked. They said that pro-poor expenditure is up by 6 percent of the GDP and unemployment reduced to 6.2 percent.

2005 increase of 6.6 percent GDP

The prime minister disclosed to the meeting that the actual numbers show that 7 percent growth was achieved last fiscal year 2005-06. It is pertinent to mention here that at the end of the fiscal year 2005-06, due to the availability of data of 9 to 11 months and based upon the provisional figures, the government had announced a GDP growth of 6.6 percent. The prime minister said that the GDP growth during the current year 2006-07 is expected to be higher than 7.2 percent targeted and range between six to eight percent.

$ 18 billion export by Pakistan during 2006

Pakistan hopes to achieve $ 18 bln exports this year: President
Karachi, Pakistan 29 Mar, 2006 President General Pervez Musharraf Wednesday said Pakistan is hoping to achieve dollar 18 billion of exports this year and the target for next year would be dollars 20 billion.Inaugurating the Expo Pakistan, he pointed out that in the first seven months of the current fiscal year- from July to January, we have already hit dollar 9.3 billion in terms of exports."I am very reasonably sure that if we continue like this we will Inshallah cross dollar 18 billion," the President remarked and hoped that next year we ought to be crossing dollar 20 billion. He was of the view that exports amounting to dollar 20 billion were not enough and we need to target much higher.

words of pervaiz mushrraf about enlightened moderation

connecting Islam to fundamentalism, fundamentalism to extremism and extremism to terrorism.one has to stop this!!!
My idea for untangling this Gordian Knot is the strategy of Enlightened Moderation which I think is a win for all – the Muslim and the Non Muslim World. This is a two-pronged strategy. One part to be delivered by the Muslim World is to shun militancy, extremism and adopting the path of socio-economic uplift. The other part to be delivered by the West, and the US in particular, must aim at resolutely resolving all political disputes with justice and also assisting in the socio-economic uplift of the deprived Muslim World.
