Aga Khan University Hosts Summit on Chronic Diseases in Kampala, Uganda

Chartered in 1983, the Aga Khan University is Pakistan’s first private, autonomous university. Its charter calls upon it to serve the Muslim Ummah and developing countries. The University is recognised for research, teaching and service of an international standard in medicine, nursing, teacher education, medical care and community service. The University has campuses and programmes in eight countries in South Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa. The campuses encompass Faculties of Health Sciences -- a Nursing School, Medical College and teaching hospitals -- in Karachi and Nairobi, Institutes for Educational Development in Karachi and Dar es Salaam, an Examination Board and an Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations. AKU is a non-denominational institution open to all, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, gender, national origin or financial standing.

His Highness the Aga Khan is the founder and Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of private, non-denominational development agencies working to empower communities and individuals to improve living conditions and opportunities, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, Central and South Asia, and the Middle East. The Network’s nine development agencies focus on social, cultural and economic development for all citizens, regardless of gender, origin or religion. The AKDN’s underlying ethic is compassion for the vulnerable in society. Its annual budget for development activities is in excess of US$ 350 million. A direct descendant of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the Aga Khan has emphasised the view of Islam as a thinking, spiritual faith, one that teaches compassion and tolerance and that upholds the dignity of man.

New privatisation policy approved: gifts of democratic govenments ,,,eat pakistan zardari ,,,,.....

ISLAMABAD - The Cabinet Committee on Privatisation on Tuesday approved the new Privatisation Policy besides approving privatisation of 21 state-owned enterprises (SOEs)
CCOP approved the privatisation of four power companies and other state-owned entities including SME Bank, National Power Construction Company, Pakistan Railways and Pakistan Post.
Minister for Privatisation Syed Naveed Qamar briefed the media persons about the decisions taken in the meeting of CCOP.
The minister said CCOP had approved the new privatisation policy that had been modelled on the concept of public-private partnership and divestment of 26 per cent shares of the state owned enterprises (SOEs). The said policy also envisaged transfer of 12 per cent shares of all SOEs to the workers of these entities.
Earlier, CCOP met under the chairmanship of Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance and Economic Affairs Shaukat Tarin at PM Secretariat. The committee reviewed the status of ongoing privatisation transactions, policy guidelines and programmes, post-privatisation issues and other related matters.
Naveed Qamar said that CCOP had also approved privatisation of Heavy Electrical Complex (HEC), Pakistan Machine Tool Factory, PTDC Motels & Restaurants, Utility Stores Corporation, Kot Addu Power Company, Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC), Marafco Industries (Machinery as is where is basis), National Insurance Company, Pakistan Reinsurance Company and State Life Insurance Corporation.

Taliban backed by RAW trained Wah bombers

The two suicide bombers who blew themselves at the Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) gates in Wah Cantonment last week were trained in Miramshah, the main town of North Waziristan Agency, by the Pakistani Taliban allegedly supported by the Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).

Officials privy to investigations told this reporter on condition of anonymity that the bombers were aged between 17 and 20 and they were natives of Khyber Agency.

According to the officials, the detained would-be suicide bomber, who identified himself as Hameedullah, revealed some stunning facts about the activities and involvement of proxy Taliban in the tribal areas of Pakistan.

Hameedullah described how the Taliban trained and provided arms and ammunition to the militants. They have also hired psychologists who brainwash innocent youth from different seminaries and transform them into hard-line militant or Fidayeen.

The officials said Hameedullah was arrested while trying to flee from the scene of the blasts in a taxi. Soon after the incident, law-enforcement agencies seized an explosive-vest that the suspect had left in a toilet at a mosque located close to the POF complex.

During initial interrogation, the man confessed that he wanted to blow himself up at the arms factory but lost heart at the last moment.

The officials declined to give more details because it could affect the ongoing investigation.

However, they said there was an overwhelming body of evidence showing that RAW and the Afghan intelligence agencies had stepped up their activities in Pakistan.

RAW and the Afghan intelligence agencies are very much active in the tribal areas. Several Afghan agents have been arrested and they confessed that they were trained by the Indians in Afghanistan, the officials said.

There are more than 10,000 Indian soldiers in Afghanistan, ostensibly to protect engineers involved in road building activities. But, in fact, most of them are spies and there maybe thousands more who are causing carnage in Pakistan they added
