Miliband visits Lahore Fort, Badshahi Mosque


UK secretary of state for foreign and commonwealth affairs David Miliband visited Badshahi Mosque and Lahore Fort here, Thursday morning.

Miliband took keen interest in the historic archaeological sites of the yesteryears and admired their beauty and grandeur.

He stressed the need to preserve these monumental archaeological sites as they provide a vital link between the past and the present.

Director General Archaeology Department, Javed Abbas briefed the guest about the revered history of the Lahore Fort and about the steps to preserve this unique archaeological site.

Earlier, Miliband visited the Badshahi Mosque. He was briefed about the history of the Mosque by Auqaf Department representative, Shamas ul Hassan


Philippines ready for Pakistan in Davis Cup



The Philippines' Davis Cup team will seek to continue its bid for a Group I promotion as it battles Pakistan in the second round of the Asia/Oceania Zone Group II in Manila this week.

The Philippine and Pakistani teams will face off beginning Friday until Sunday at the Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) shell court.

The RP team, coached by Christ Cuarto, is composed of Cecil Mamiit, Patrick-John Tierro, Treat Conrad Huey and Francis Casey Alcantara.


Shehzad Roy wins award for education work

Top Pakistani pop star and founding president of the Zindagi Trust Shehzad Roy has been awarded the 2009 Patricia Blunt Koldyke Fellowship on Social Entrepreneurship by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs for his philanthropic work in the field of education.

Mr Roy was given the award for the work he has done to improve the quality of primary and secondary education in Pakistan.

The music star is one of the youngest ever recipients of the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, one of Pakistan's highest civil honours, and he has also been awarded Pakistan's highest humanitarian award, the Sitara-i-Eisaar. MTV Pakistan also recently gave him two awards for his music.
