*The ruins of Mindoq Khar or the Flower Palace are perched on the mountain
slopes overlooking the Skardu Valley. The Palace was named after Queen
Mindoq Gialmo (Lady of Flowers). The Palace was destroyed by Sikh troops in
1840. The Skardu Valley is also known as ‘Little Tibet’ and stands at an
altitude of 2,438 metres; with the lofty peaks of the Karakorum Mountains as
a backdrop, the Valley is a veritable tourist’s paradise. *
