Paralympic Games

Pakistan participated in the Paralympic Games, also held in Beijing in 2008. The Paralympic squad's performance was much better than that of their Olympic counterparts. All-round athlete Haider Ali made the country proud by winning a silver medal in the long jump event. This was Pakistan's first ever Paralympic medal and Ali also came close to winning a medal in the discus throw event. Pakistan's participation in the event was marred by a doping scandal when weightlifter Naveed Ahmed Butt tested positive for a banned substance.
